Starting the New Year Fresh

I did it.

I not only deactivated my Facebook account, but I also requested permanent deletion since apparently you can't actually delete your own account. Fuck you, Facebook.

Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you.

I've been moving in this direction for some time, deactivating my account periodically for over a year for longer and longer periods. Most recently, it was several weeks. I logged back in a few days ago out of curiosity and discovered it was just as full of stupid as it was when I left.

After one of my friends (who feels the need to comment on everything) left yet another innane comment about something I'd posted on my wall, I said that was enough. It was to kill the account completely.

  1. I permanently left Facefuck shortly after numbnuts launched his IPO. I've never looked back. Whenever I encounter a business that requires you to "like" them on Facefuck, I send them an email stating that I won't be "liking" them at all, and asking how many serious businesses they know that like to "poke" people.

  2. After my temporary attempt at deleting my account, I ended up going back. Just because my tattoo business is (sadly) tied to using FB for advertising. *sigh*

  3. I left FB a couple of years ago over privacy issues primarily, but it was getting to be just too much "praying for _______________" for one who does not pray, and then there was Farmville. Don't get me started. Never looked back. I know they will never actually delete my account. Be careful with logging back in following your request to "go dark'" I think there was some kind of statement on my leaving that if I logged back in within a specified time frame that the account would be reactivated by default. I'm far outside that window in time, but I still don't trust that I couldn't get right back in with my old login. Bonne année!
