What a Difference a Day Makes!

It was clear and sunny 24 hours ago…

The commute this morning wasn't all that bad. At least it wasn't as horrible as it was the last time it snowed. I fear this afternoon will be more of a problem, as the white stuff is supposed to continue coming down throughout the day (which it did not last time). Fingers crossed!

Don't get me wrong. I love the cold and the snow…I just don't like driving in it!

I asked a co-worker today if you ever get used to it.  Her response? "Never. I have a very healthy respect for driving in weather like this, and I've lived here all my life…and I ski!"

The prognosticators are saying it will be clear (but extremely cold, lower single-digits) until the middle of next week, when when another storm is scheduled to come through.

  1. Growing up with snow is different than being an adult living with snow. Growing up, you get snow down your boots, fall face first into the shit, you slip on yellow snow, sometimes realize that the snow is higher than you, slip on the ice, get popped with a snow ball, dodge falling icicles, run from trees when the wind blows and ass loads of snow pelt walkers below, your toes get wet, your pants get wet, your gloves get wet, you're sweating but still cold under layers of cloths, get snow down your back, your toes sting from the cold, you can't move your toes anymore, you can't feel your toes anymore, hand lotion is your friend before puberty, everyone at school has hat head, it takes ten minutes to get across the street to a friends house, you're always looking for the other glove, you envy the kids on the bus, you hate the kids that get driven to school by their moms, it takes twice as long to walk to school, it sucks when you forget your house key, you have to climb the snow piles on the side of the road to get to the sidewalk, slush happens, you move to the south and swear you'll never move back to NYC.

  2. Yup, driving in snow is a pain in the behind, but you have a good car for it. My sister has a mini and it is very good in snow. We got our first snow last night, about the same amount as in your photo. I am waiting for the skating rink to open so I can get some exercise and fresh air…. I still love to ice skate even though I can't ski anymore.
