Republicans: Don't Touch That Dial

From  MockPaperScissors:

Wingnuttia is outraged that private car companies making electric cars are not including AM radios. "How else is Possum Hollar gonna get their hate on?!" they demand:

The Guardian's Katie Thornton reports that Volkswagen and Mazda are joining Volvo, Tesla, BMW and Audi in excluding AM radio from their electric cars. They view it as a technical matter, while Turning Point USA's Charlie Kirk, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and far-right radio host Mark Levin are saying it is a conspiracy against far-right talk radio…

Levin is furious, telling listeners, "They finally figured out how to attack conservative talk radio." Similarly, Kirk, on his radio show, claimed, "Whether they're doing this intentionally or not, the consequence will be.… an all-out attack on AM radio."

Cruz claims, "There's a reason big car companies were open to taking down AM radio.… Let's be clear: big business doesn't like things that are overwhelmingly conservative."

They really believe that car manufacturers are… woke? So what is behind this?

Thornton, in a report for The Guardian published on June 21, notes that some companies "have already dispensed with AM in their electric cars, because AM's already unpolished reception is subject to even more buzz, crackling."

"While some manufacturers have found workarounds for the interference," Thornton explains, "others appear to have decided that it's not worth the engineering expense."

So… a business decision. I thought Republicans hated central planning from the evil gubmint.

Asshats!

From Margaret and Helen:

"…the more Republicans I meet, the more I like my dog. Just once I would like to see a politician with an ass too small to fit his own head. It has been a rough few weeks sitting back trying to get my rest and stay out of politics, but honestly, there seems to be no end to this madness and I once again find myself not able to keep my mouth shut. I used to have a handle on life, but it broke. Let me count the new ways the Republicans found to wear their ass for a hat…

One. I heard a Congressman from Texas today say that Obamacare was forcing hard-working, middle class families to purchase health insurance they don't need. Now there is a congressman who has definitely put his head in a place where the sun doesn't shine. Show me someone who doesn't need health insurance and I'll show you the second coming of Jesus. And for the record, it's called the Affordable Care Act because before it was passed, healthcare was no longer affordable for most Americans. Do these Tea Party asshats really take us for fools?

Two. We are a country that blindly followed Bush's codpiece into "preventive" war not once but twice. Now a bunch of children get gassed to death by a dictator and we are suddenly too weary for war. Really? Republicans too weary for war. Sounds to me that they are too weary for a black commander-in-chief. Oh dear me. Did I say that out loud? God forbid someone suggest that Republicans are racists. He's a Muslim from Kenya with a fake birth certificate…short version: he's black.

Three. Not crazy enough for you? How about thinking the answer to gun violence is more guns? We're up to what, about one mass shooting a month now? It sure seems like there are plenty of guns to go around. How about we try a different approach like asking ourselves why we need more guns than actual people in this country. Are there really that many deer to hunt? And something tells me if the British are coming again, it's not with muskets. One thing is for sure: Guns don't kill people… but they make it real easy.

Four. Oh but for the love of God if Texas wasn't dealing with enough crazy already with Rick Perry, we now have to deal with Ted Cruz. Now here's a guy who talks in circles so effectively, it's no wonder his head eventually ran into his ass. In an effort to show off his grasp of the situation, he had to go and bring Dr. Seuss into the mix. For the record Senator Cruz, the moral of Green Eggs and Ham is to try something new… you might like it. For example, 40 million people might actually like having access to healthcare. Cruz staged his ridiculous talk-a-thon against cutting off debate only to then turn around and join 99 other senators in voting to cut off the debate. He's no Wendy Davis. That's for sure. But exactly what should we expect from a man who said, "We need 100 more like Jesse Helms in the U.S. Senate." If brains were leather, Cruz wouldn't have enough to saddle a junebug.

I could go on, but must I really? Let me sum it up for you. Now that the government is closed, will hard-working, middle class federal employees get paid? No. Will Congressmen get paid? Yep. They'll continue to get their $174,000 a year, and they will have health insurance as well. Asshats everywhere. I mean it. Really."

Someone Call the Whaaaaaambulance!

From Joe.My.God.:

During his daily show on Christian radio, today hate group leader Tony Perkins asked his listeners to join NOM's hilariously failed boycott of General Mills.  Because Betty Crocker is a homo-loving purveyor of anti-Christian cake mix.

At Betty Crocker, the only thing they're mixing up is their priorities. Hi, I'm Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. If you ask conservatives, Betty Crocker's latest promotion is a recipe for disaster. This summer, the famous dessert line decided to jump on the same-sex "marriage" bandwagon-and bring cakes to celebrate. In Minnesota, where parent company General Mills is headquartered, Betty Crocker decided to donate wedding cakes to the first homosexual couples who exchanged vows on the first day that counterfeit marriage was legal. "Betty celebrates all families," said manager Laura Forero. "We don't want to be old fashioned," the company explained. Unfortunately for General Mills, the majority of Americans think natural marriage is anything but old fashioned. And they've made it tough on companies like Target, Starbucks, and JC Penney who disagree. Know where your money is going. When you're at the store, think outside the Betty Crocker box! For a full list of products that are undermining marriage, check out DumpGeneralMills.com.

REMINDER: When anti-gay Christianist hate groups call for nationwide boycotts of LGBT-friendly companies, that is a righteous use of the free market in order to preserve morality, marriage, family, and The American Way. But when GAY groups use or threaten the use of a boycott, THAT is homofascist intimidation, intolerance, bullying, and a "mafia-style" attempt to deny the freedom of speech. (Hello, Oregon!) Just so we're clear.

Horrific

I hope I live long enough to see the Republican party completely self-emmolate.

From TPM:

I just wanted to underscore how horrific the Republicans' abortion bill was, and how it's sent shockwaves through my circle of friends. While I'm political, many of my friends aren't, and they were terrified last night when they heard the 20 week ban had passed the House. They didn't understand the process and thought it would soon become law. I had to assure them that the Democrats would stop the ban and that it'd die in the Senate.

You see, to my friends, many of whom are in their 30's and plan on soon starting a family, this wasn't a political ploy, it was a bill that threatened their very lives. I think most women, and probably most men too, have known someone who needed a late-term abortion due to a severe fetal defect. The thought of having this happen is bad enough, it's an expectant mother's worst nightmare, but then being forced against your will to carry a fetus that you know will die to term? That's the cruelest of torture. Can you imagine going out everyday and having people excitedly asking you whether it's a boy or a girl, when the baby's due, etc., when the baby you're carrying is fated to die? That's what the Republicans want for every woman in this country, and that makes them monsters.

The Republicans are officially on record as wanting to torment and torture women (I won't even get into the lack of a health exception for women, or the rape language…). My friends, many of whom are socially conservative, will never vote for the GOP. I just don't think Boehner understands the long-term damage he's doing to his party. How can you win elections when you're on a regular basis voting against the health and well-being of 50% of the electorate?
