Republicans: Don't Touch That Dial

From  MockPaperScissors:

Wingnuttia is outraged that private car companies making electric cars are not including AM radios. "How else is Possum Hollar gonna get their hate on?!" they demand:

The Guardian's Katie Thornton reports that Volkswagen and Mazda are joining Volvo, Tesla, BMW and Audi in excluding AM radio from their electric cars. They view it as a technical matter, while Turning Point USA's Charlie Kirk, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and far-right radio host Mark Levin are saying it is a conspiracy against far-right talk radio…

Levin is furious, telling listeners, "They finally figured out how to attack conservative talk radio." Similarly, Kirk, on his radio show, claimed, "Whether they're doing this intentionally or not, the consequence will be.… an all-out attack on AM radio."

Cruz claims, "There's a reason big car companies were open to taking down AM radio.… Let's be clear: big business doesn't like things that are overwhelmingly conservative."

They really believe that car manufacturers are… woke? So what is behind this?

Thornton, in a report for The Guardian published on June 21, notes that some companies "have already dispensed with AM in their electric cars, because AM's already unpolished reception is subject to even more buzz, crackling."

"While some manufacturers have found workarounds for the interference," Thornton explains, "others appear to have decided that it's not worth the engineering expense."

So… a business decision. I thought Republicans hated central planning from the evil gubmint.

As If He Had a Snowball's Chance in Hell to Begin With…

Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee made a statement on Facebook Friday addressing the revelations that eldest son Josh Duggar admitted to sexually molesting "girls," presumably his own sisters, as a teenager.

The former Arkansas governor largely defended the actions of the family since the abuse and said he wanted to "affirm" support for the family. "Josh's actions when he was an underage teen are as he described them himself, 'inexcusable,' but that doesn't mean 'unforgivable,'" Huckabee's statement said. The Duggar family endorsed former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum in the 2012 election, but have backed Huckabee for the Republican presidential nomination this time around.

Huckabee continued, "No purpose whatsoever is served by those who are now trying to discredit Josh or his family by sensationalizing the story. Good people make mistakes and do regrettable and even disgusting things. The reason that the law protects disclosure of many actions on the part of a minor is that the society has traditionally understood something that today's blood-thirsty media does not understand—that being a minor means that one's judgement is not mature."

UPDATE: Absolutely Fucking Unbelievable. And the judge was appointed by Huckabee.

Wingers Go Ghandi

Josh Marshall, at Talking Points Memo:

Yesterday, Sen. Tom Coburn suggested that President Obama's immigration executive order might lead to "civil disobedience", "anarchy," or even political "violence." I asked just what that civil disobedience might look like and TPM Reader FS has an idea of what anti-immigrant forces might have in mind …

My suggestion for what civil disobedience should look like is to move to Phoenix, trade their imitation Army rifles for shovels, and do a protest march through the residential subdivisions, pulling weeds as they go.

They should march into restaurant kitchens, offering to wash dishes for free. Or volunteer to man the drive through at any of a hundred fast food joints. Maybe ask a California cabbage farmer if they have anything needs harvesting. Those are the jobs illegal immigrants might be taking away.

A little background. I lived in Phoenix for 13 years, the last eight as a homeowner. Ours was the fourth house completed in our neighborhood and I'd often sit on the porch drinking beer and watching Hispanic workers build our neighbors' houses. For a few bottles of Pacifico, I learned most of the workers were from Mexico or Guatemala, and none were employed directly by the builder.

For all the anti immigrant bluster for which Sheriff Joe Arpaio is famous today, he could've effortlessly rounded up 100 immigrants a day in any new subdivision being built anywhere in Maricopa county, from about 2000 to 2007. But that would've really inconvenienced the real estate developers, so Sheriff Joe found other stunts like making prisoners wear pink underwear. He didn't come to hypocritically discover anti immigration fever until the bubble burst and people turned on each other.

My time in Arizona made it really hard for me to get mad at a man who wants to work in 110 degree heat, for cash. But those are the jobs in question. Anyone who wants to protest should start there.

I Can Guarantee…

…that when the revolution comes, this asshole will be among the first that the people drag out of his penthouse to string up.

At least some people get it:

And Teh St00pid Continues

From Asshole of the Day:

The whining by Republicans about things that were closed during the shutdown has reached ridiculous levels. How hard is it to understand that making Obama shutdown the government would mean closing things? As I said before, YOU shut it down, Republicans, so all the closings are YOURS, not Obama's or anyone else's.

Well, especially not Obama's since no bill ever reached his desk to fund the government. None. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

But that hasn't stopped Republicans from phony grievances, such as Eric Cantor having all the doctors in the House show up in lab coats to discuss how Obama is refusing to let up to 300 kids with cancer into the NIH trials. This, while they shut the government down to stop Obamacare which would give MILLIONS OF KIDS access to healthcare, some of whom certainly have cancer. Yes, this really happened.

And then of course there was Rep. Randy Neugebauern arguing with an park ranger as though he didn't vote for the shutdown, which he did. And the best part is that Neugebauer gets paid during the shutdown, but the park ranger does not!

And then today in Arizona, state Rep. Brenda Barton posts on Facebook:

Someone is paying the National Park Service thugs overtime for their efforts to carry out the order of De Fuhrer… where are our Constitutional Sheriffs who can revoke the Park Service Rangers authority to arrest??? Do we have any Sheriffs with a pair?

Hitler! Thugs! Overtime! If you had NO KNOWLEDGE of what's going on, that would sound bad. Of course the government is shutdown, so how can you justify keeping open a park? How? And the rangers aren't getting overtime— they aren't even being paid! But don't let facts get in the way of your smear campaign, asshole!

Pig People on the March

Bill Kristol thinks Republicans should carry the shutdown fight on for a couple weeks.

"It's not going to be the end of the world, honestly, even if you're on nutrition assistance from the federal government," Kristol added. "I believe that no one is going to starve in Arkansas because of the shutdown."

How about you go without food for a couple weeks, asshole?

I think we're way beyond time for pitchforks and guillotines in this country.

Horrific

I hope I live long enough to see the Republican party completely self-emmolate.

From TPM:

I just wanted to underscore how horrific the Republicans' abortion bill was, and how it's sent shockwaves through my circle of friends. While I'm political, many of my friends aren't, and they were terrified last night when they heard the 20 week ban had passed the House. They didn't understand the process and thought it would soon become law. I had to assure them that the Democrats would stop the ban and that it'd die in the Senate.

You see, to my friends, many of whom are in their 30's and plan on soon starting a family, this wasn't a political ploy, it was a bill that threatened their very lives. I think most women, and probably most men too, have known someone who needed a late-term abortion due to a severe fetal defect. The thought of having this happen is bad enough, it's an expectant mother's worst nightmare, but then being forced against your will to carry a fetus that you know will die to term? That's the cruelest of torture. Can you imagine going out everyday and having people excitedly asking you whether it's a boy or a girl, when the baby's due, etc., when the baby you're carrying is fated to die? That's what the Republicans want for every woman in this country, and that makes them monsters.

The Republicans are officially on record as wanting to torment and torture women (I won't even get into the lack of a health exception for women, or the rape language…). My friends, many of whom are socially conservative, will never vote for the GOP. I just don't think Boehner understands the long-term damage he's doing to his party. How can you win elections when you're on a regular basis voting against the health and well-being of 50% of the electorate?
